Homework & Discipline
I try not to send a lot of homework home in third grade.
We will have reading homework on Monday through Thursday evenings. This really helps build their reading foundation! They will bring home a green sheet for you sign so I know they’ve read. It should only take 10-15 minutes. If it’s a chapter book, plan on a chapter a night. If it’s a small book, they may read the entire book or half. Once the paper is filled out completely, your child will get to go to our treasure chest!
Because we have weekly spelling tests, you may want to study the words throughout the week or the Thursday night before our test.
Unfortunately, if your child has difficulty completing work during the school day and recess time has already been used as work time, the work will then need to become homework.
Thank you for all your help in making sure it gets completed and returned!
Your child will be expected to use the social skills taught through the Boys and Girls Town model. Our district has adopted this model and all faculty and staff have been trained in using it. Skills such as following instructions, using appropriate voice tone, accepting no, working with others, disagreeing appropriately, and staying on task are among some of the skills taught. The model has been proven to be highly-effective.
